yeah, all the way until i realized seth ciferri is a pompous asshole and got his ass handed to him. then blew it off saying michelle winning is like mcdonalds hamburgers being the best.
he was judged by tattoo enthusiasts, not the general public. had he put half as much effort into doing the damn tattoo instead of sitting on his high horse, he probably would have won.
i'm really let down, i used to look up to that guy.
Yea,i thought it was amusing hearing Seth say that he doesn't do conventions, because he tattoos better at the shop..And that McDonals quote was really funny..He did come across like a poor sport..I think he put's in a cleaner tattoo than Michelle, but i think she put more work into the design of the tattoo..I would have voted for her piece too.
c'mon people...
its television. ever hear of editing?
the quote about mc donalds was made two weeks before the convention, and it was with regard to "tattoo contests".. it was not a direct quote about michelle winning, but it's kinda fuinny how they had that already in the can, READY to play at the end of the episode! hahaha!!
i wasnt a poor sport at all in "real life"
the whole thing was fun, and i had a blast doing it.
the producer who made our episode wasnt inolved in any of the other episodes, and was convinced that there had to be some drama, as it was the very last one to air, and they needed to "Sell the show" to the public, hoping to get 12 episodes funded for next season.
i know i came off as pompous... that was the joke of the whole week we shot here in baltimore... i kept cracking up, trying to keep a straight face, and be an "AC-TOR"
in all, it was a great experience, but the backlash of shit talking by faceless people has made it almost not worth it.
thanks to all of those who have been supportive, and who know me in the real world.
I would have really hard time believing that Seth would be a pompous or antyhing like that, considering that he was responsible of giving tattoo artists one of the most appreciated learning tools/places in the modern internet era. A man who likes to help out other artists out that much, really cant be stuck up.
TLC made you look like a dick. that episode really pissed me off.
you too? hahaha...
yeah, i spoke w the producer about it today. there was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that i was unaware of, until tonight.
what a total bummer. i never would have agreed to do a "battle of the sexes" type show.. i dont get down like that.
when they called me about it, i gave them a list of about 6 girls who's (traditional style) tattooing would have a very good chance of kicking my ass..
ugh.. i really dont want to get into it too much, because whats done is done, but in hindsight, i should have declined the offer.
i'm glad you came in here and posted on this. sorry you have to do so much damage control because of some fucking producer trying to get ratings.
thanks!
it happens... i expected something along these lines when i signed up for it.
you have to keep in mind, that the producers, directors, and the networks behind the shows are only looking out for thier own best interest, no matter what they have to do to make that happen...
reality shows are really not reality, sorry to be the one to break the bad news, but thats the way it is... you can BET, that any argument, disagreement, scuffle, or any drama of any kind, on any reality show is at the very least, repeated over and over again for proper angles, wording, etc..
more often than not, its scripted, because without drama and suspense, no one would watch the shows... orange county choppers wouldnt be on the air were it not for the salty old man that runs the show, and the shit he gives his employees.
tattoo wars will most likely not see a second season, because no one was watching it. it was boring to the general public, because it actually focused on real tattoo content, and not boob jobs, fistfights, and shit talking.
that said, i'm going to LA to film for a bit with Ms. Von D in february. haha!!!
Well, lets hope that it was like it was because they wanted it to continue to the season 2. It fucking sucks, but TV usually does...
I didnt see that episode yet (though I should, I host the boston website). Seth, the offer still stands, if you ever wanna come back up to new england to do a cool tattoo and get interviewed and filmed for the TattooNOW sessions, we dont edit for drama, we edit for truth and justice, ha.
I also dont buy buy that the public wants drama, I think that the corperate infrastructure found something that kinda works if forced down the publics throught and they have very little other choice. That is, the only reason people "want" bad tv is becasue thats what the TV producers give them. Like I siad, I didnt see the show but the public does like McDonalds... but thats because they have had it shoved down their throat and arent smart enough to know better.
Just think of this as the same kind of bullshit meter tattoos can be! Sadly ironic. I definately see this as an indication of how mainstream tattooing is. Gabe you work for this magazine? My head might explode. Its surreal to see this crap on 3 forums now.
Defence #2
Seth, to me the show had the feel of the original Chopper Wars series. I missed the first episode, but I felt that the last episode was by far the best of the series. I mainly look for pictures of the artwork. The stories are sorta the same, and endless; joy, loss, sorrow, family etc.. and TV never shows enough pictures! This episode was fun.
Public Service Announcement - because even idiots get tattoos
Reality television is not real.
greengirl, I work (and own) TattooNOW (this website which powers a ton of tattoo websites) and Off the Map Tattoo (which is a studio in western mass). I have no affiliation with Tattoo Wars other than the fact that I like the show more than any other tattoo TV show...
In case anyone cares, if you liked tattoo wars drama free artist backstories, you might like the video proiject we have going on. Here is the TattooNOW Sessions trailer. The first TattooNOW Sessions DVD with Nathan Kostechko and Carson Hill is available, get yer Xmas presents early!
yeh it really did make you look like an asshole.
Gabe. How long is the DVD? If I had a DVD player, or a tv, I would consider getting it. I have seen the trailer like 4 times and it isnt boring yet :) Btw. Is the DVD region free?
So the show portrayed you like an arrogant dick..Well,then my bad.Your a pretty good actor-maybe you should quit tattooing, and be an actor-it seems to be paying off for the crew of LA&Miami Ink.
hahaha!
maybe!
perhaps im a better actor than a tattooer, but i dont think i'm really cut out for show-biz. these days i spend time with my wife and kids, build machines full time, and tattoo two days a week... i hardly have time to ride my bike or get to the skatepark, so i cant imagine a full time TV gig.
and who cares who it seems to be working for?
dont hate on em... i love to see people get paid for doing goofy shit. they are striking while the iron is hot.. more power to em.
as for me being arrogant, well, i dont know what to say.. everything i said on the show that would seem like that, was always follwed by laughter, from not being able to keep a straight face, but of course that was edited out... i assumed they would include some of it to make light of the "war"
im confident, but not 100% happy with my tattooing. as i said on the show.. "im never pleased with my work"
all i can do is keep trying harder, and hope that once in a while i do what i think is a successful tattoo.
yep.
ok, back to work!
and Gabe, thanks alot, again.. i will try to take you up on it. i will be tattooing for a couple days in boston pretty soon, so perhaps we can make that happen. lets talk soon.
i'm flattered that you'd have me.
seth
Gabe, How long is the 1st DVD of Carson H. and Nathan K.? What kind of topics are covered?
The first DVD is 40 some odd minutes long. Nathan Kostechko is the first interview and is like 20 something long. Then theres a Neuma segment thats like 4-5 minutes, a Hell City video thats a few minutes and then another 15 or so of Carson Hill. Its not region free, but you might be able to play it on your computer...? Lemme know. topics covered? Well, its definitely not a how to tattoo, no real technical talk is in there. Mostly their stories and interesting things we got out of em.
So hey Seth, whens the rematch???
haha!
i hardly think one is needed.
Seth, don't worry about it. The world expects everyone to be some self-deprecating sloth on TV! You've got some talent -- you shouldn't be slammed for having a bit of confidence in your abilities.
Personally I don't think TLC misrepresented you at all...The general public (those same McDonald's zealots you spoke of) MISINTERPRETED it! Some folks just don't know how it is to put your artwork in front of the world and ask for an evaluation -- you just can't do that with your tail between your legs!
Seth, don't sweat it! If they ask you to do Tattoo Wars again you go ahead and do it and do it proudly!
FWIW, I liked your tattoo better anyway...
i saw the show two nights ago thankfully to my wife who dvr's it regularly. I think the editing was definitely meant to portray two "characters". I think that they were a lil harsh on the edits on Seth, and tried to create an angelic "hardcore downtown NYC" image for Michelle. I've lived in NYC for a while years back and spent 95% of my time in alphabet city/LES and it was pretty hilarious...
In the end Seth's tattoo was the winner for me, much cooler and interesting, though both performed great tattoos. I also like Seth's banner for the tattoo convention more so, I prefer the "less show, more go" approach, only thing u will have from the convention years down the road is the tattoo anyway.
Tattoo Wars, the only show on TV about TATTOO's.
