self taught artist

4 messages · last activity 5/13/2012

I am a self taught aspiring artist. I am not looking for any arguements or back and forth. Just real critique. I have been studying tattooing through videos and books. I have taken art classes at SCSU. I have been drawing for years. I know none of this makes me a tattoo artist , just giving a little background. I have built a studio in the basement of my home with sepearte entrance, sepearate bath, seperate sink(even though I only use disposables). I have completed the bbp course. I know I am referred to as a scratcher and accept it. I just would like honest opinions about my work and skill level...basically do I have what it takes to go forward in this industry or should I put the machine down? Now, Im not saying that any critique is going to take me out of the game. Just want to know where I stand. Also I have only been tattooing for 2 months.I would like an opinion on that alone...I would appreciate any input. thanks.
sorry, You can see some of my work on facebook....Jester designs.
Its ganna take longer then 2 months for you to really get the hang of things. Anyways I looked you up on FB but didnt find you so Im telling you this from my personal journey. It took me 2 years really being self taught to get it down packed and confidant. You have already started off good. Way good. You seem sterile and thats the biggest step. Fuck what everyone thinks now. Get good on your own and let words fly by. The best thing to do is practice on your self first. That way you know how the needle feels on your skin. That way you know how not to go to deep and blow out lines. Be perfect all the time. If the line or color doesn't look solid and bold...it's cus its not!!! Learn the difference between ink and blood, and ink that has no blood behind it. Your tattoos should bleed, but not bad and they should scab at a minimal amount. Nice thin scabs if any and not some bulky fell off your bike scab. Thats the best way I can put it for now. I can get more into detail but you will work that out on your own. Thats where the learning curve will kick in. It will develope your own style and originality. O yah. Your needle should always be at a 45 degree angle. ALWAYS. Not everyone tattoos the same way. Some are fast, some are slow. and some go back and forth. Its really ganna be up to you. if you ever do apprentice through a shop they are ganna tell you there is only one way. Then they go off and do something different. Its all ganna depend on you. Check me out www.oogstertattoos.webs.com. I was taught the basics from my pops and told that I would eventually find my way. Without the stress of the apprenticeship bullshit bitch work. Hope this was good for you. Take care.
Thanks for being real. Thankss for the advice I appreciate it. sorry, the facebook was incorrect, Its (jess desi) they wouldnt let me put under the other name. gonna check out you page. thanks again.
