sclaroderma

last week i got a tattoo on my scleroderma, nothing heavy just some line art. I'm expecting some sort of strangeness because of the nature of the skin in the area but i was wondering if anyone else has tattooed or gotten a tattoo on a morphea scleroderma? -sara
Sara, I have recenty contemplated getting a tattoo with the reason being a way to embrace the morphea now existing in many places over my body. Since I come from an artistic family, I feel a tattoo would be a neat way to showcase an artist's work. Do you have any pictures you can post or email me? I now have many large and small scars and have wondered how a tattoo made take on a lesser affected area... With appreciation, Sonja
Does the skin react and develop new morphea scars when you get a tattoo? I really want to get one, but I don't want any new scars.
I dont really know how to post a pic here but i do have one My morphea is localized to a single spot on my back and hasn't really shown any effects other than it was sensitive and extra itchy for a while the lines that go through the morphea are slightly fuzzy on the very margin as compaired to the other lines in the tattoo and it feels like the whole thing is still raised which may be an effect of sclaroderma over all in that i am scarring more than i should but nothing has faded wierdlly or anything like that so i think its all a ok its just going to take longer to heal and might over time warp? i dunno that's what i think might happen if anyone knows where/how to post pics here it'd be cool to see other people with tattoos on their morphea too. I think thats what i was looking for originaly when i posted here.. -sara
Could you mail me a picture of your tattoo? I'd really appreciate it! [email removed]
hey sara, i'm considering a tattoo over my scleroderma, how is yours doing? Can you email pics?
i have morphea and have tattoos, and my doctor nearly killed me. he said that he has had two female patients die from getting a tattoo while having active morphea. it caused a flare up in the skin, many more lesions and internal thickening as well and that was the cause of the deaths. i noticed an increase in the overall size of my morphea spots and a couple of new ones. BUT i still ask m doctor every visit "can i get a new tattoo now?" but his answer is still no.
I know you all aren't doctors, but Im wondering if it is safe for my younger sister to get a tattoo.. she really wants one, but our Mom is very wary of it. My sister just turned 17 and has morphea and linear scleroderma. She has alot of scars that cover her back, neck arms and legs. Im not sure where she would get a tat, but I want to know if ink will hurt her, or if she will become more scarred. Regardless of how many scars cover her, she is beautiful.
if anyone could email me pics that would be great! [email removed]
Hey, I was told I had morphea bout ten years ago, but wasn't told alot about it. In fact I had to go to several doctors before being told thats what I had (new zealand is a really small country). I don't even know what type I have, just that my scars look inverted. I have two tattoo's already but not on my scars. I have a massive scar right across my lower back which I want to cover up with a tattoo. could someone with a tattoo on top of their morphea please let me know how it went? I would really appreciate it.
[email removed]... please message me
Wow, and there's me thinking that me trying to plan getting a tat in a place where i'm least effected by my localised schleroderma would still make it get worse, then there's people getting tats ON IT! I spose I have quite a bad case, biopsys, having steriods through drips, physio due to muscle wearing away and joints locking up, being paid to go into a doctors exam because noone had seen as case of it before, being used as a ginea pig, and various creams and tablets later, I gave up going to the docs and regular trips to specialist hospitals where nothing could be done about it, and i just get on with life. All of this and i'm not even 18 yet, sigh! Cannot wait to get my tat, going to get it on my leg which is least effected by it, a swallow to symbolise freedom, and because they're pretty of corse. It's always nice to talk to people in the same boat as you :)
I have been wanting a tattoo for some time now, and I have had Morphea for over 3 years. I have three spots on my belly, one on my foot, and a few on my right calf. I do not want to get any of these spots tattooed, my tat would be somewhere completely different. Has anyone gotten a tattoo that was somewhere not on their Morphea? If so, was the tattoo affected at all and where was it? Also, did your morphea flare up? I can deal with a few little flare ups, but I don't want a huge new spot, especially not on my tattoo. It is really nice to finally talk to people who are in the same boat as me! Thanks
HI, I have Morphea Sclaroderma as well and I have two tattoos. I am 27 years old and I was diagnosed when I was about 13 years old. My first tattoo I got about 2 years ago its on my ring finger(my husbands name) and the other is on my wrist. I healed normally and didnt have any problems at all with either one. I was wondering the same though about getting it on the tattoo to cover it up on my back.....but who knows? I did want to encourage all of you though that I found a great man that loves me and supports me even though I have Morphea sporadically all over my body. Love will find you, stay joyful and hopeful! I know it can be tough but who cares what the world thinks!!! Good luck and I hope to hear an answer soon on a cure!
I first developed morphea at 18, had one spot, my mom always said it looked like a "fungus, don't share towels with us"...I asked my doctor when i was 19 what it was before i went on a trip, he said it was "nothing more than dry skin, put lotion on it". I took a trip to texas, got my first tattoo. A year & a half later, I had developed a few other spots, they were all symmetrical, but I was still thinking it was a dry skin weirdness. When I developed 2 spots on my right arm which matched where I pushed my watch up at work, I finally went to a doctor. Because my insurance wasn't accepted at the office, the doctor told me she "didn't need to biopsy, I'm 99% sure of what it is" & told me I had morphea scleroderma/lichen planus. She told me NOT to google anyone with the conditions because they were "worst cases". She gave me a cream to put on my lesions twice a day. I had enough of them, this was a chore. When I moved to NY 3 years later, I had lapsed on my cream application, finally had insurance that allowed a biopsy. After the dermatologist told me "you look like you're burning yourself, I think there's nothing wrong with you", she biopsied my lesions. I told her I thought I had morphea. She called me 4 days later & said the results came back as morphea, please come to the office. I went to the office, & immediately, the nurse took pictures of my lesions...pictures. I WAS a worst case. The doc gave me another cream to put on 3 times a day on each lesion. That'd be like, a tube a day...I refused. That was 2004. I've watched my morphea since, it's slowly progressed, stopped, progressed, stopped. After my father died in 2010, I got a tattoo on my arm to honor him, it covered some morphea lesions. My tattoo healed perfectly, better than I thought it would. I have, however, noticed a few new morphea plaques in spots where I had none previously. I feel like, no matter what I do, if I listen to doctors, or do my own thing, this stupid disease will do what it wants. So I, too, will do what I want. Sorry for such a long post. Wanted to get my story told somewhere. Thanks. Sarah
I have morphea scleroderma in a long patch across my shoulderblades. It hasn't gotten any worse from when I last saw my dr a year ago, so I decided to get a shoulder tattoo. I did not tattoo over any of the spots because I didn't know what it would do. I figure if it's dormant then let it stay dormant. I got my tattoo 2 months ago and it healed perfectly. I don't see any new plaques, but I know my derm (who I'm seeing tomorrow) is going to kill me. I would be really careful about getting a tat over the plaque.
Hi all! I was diagnosed with morphea, vitaligo and alopecia about 3 years ago. I had a tattoo when I was 15 (I'm now 28) and have had no problems with it as yet. Yesterday I had my 2nd and 3rd tattoo (addictive!) I have morphea on my lower back and face and vitaligo on upper back and face! So I decided to have a tat over my vitaligo and not over the morphea... I will let you know how I get on. My doctor did say just because you can't see it it doesn't mean that the morphea isn't there... Scary! Could be a problem for me, could be not. Big hugs to my new found morphea pals xxx
I have Localized Scleroderma or Morphea on both of my legs. I have serveral nasty scars that I got tired of looking at so I have been tattooing over all of them! So far it is really hard to heal but worth it.
