Looking for Apprenticeship in Central Fl

My advice as a a current apprentice is to go get tattooed. Look up some local shops in your yellow pages and check them out. Look at portfolios and find an artist who's work you admire. Get tattooed. It sounds stupid to some but being heavily tattooed makes a great argument for your case. Build a relationship with your tattoo artist. Tip very well! Constantly work on your portfolio. Focus on clean linework first and foremost. Tattoo artists are going to want to see your linework without color to gauge how well you can draw tattooable art. Copy your line drawings onto good paper and shade and color them with good watercolors or good color pencils. Study color theory and anatomy.
Now is the time you might want to drop a hint to your artist and that you'd like him/her to critique your work. Don't get bummed if they criticize your work. Take any suggestions and apply them. Keep trying. It takes a while. They might tell you no a few times. Persistence is key. If they really like you and your art and they just don't have time or space to teach you they might refer you to another shop. That's what happened to me.
The point is, you can't get an apprenticeship on the internet and nobody is going to just give you one. You have to work hard to get one and even harder Once you do get one. There are no shortcuts but the rewards far outweigh the sacrifices.
