Covering machine during tattoo

19 messages · last activity 1/25/2007

I have a questions for the artists. I am getting some new work done soon at a new shop. The artist's work is very good and his shop looks clean and tidy. My only concern is that when I look at his portfolio I see pictures of him tattooing people and he doesn't have any plastic cover on his machine or cord. When I had my other tattoo done at a different shop the artist had a plastic cover on his machine and cord. He uses gloves, single use neddles, disp. cups ect. and should I be concerned about this or is it just a matter of perference.
He should be using a clip cord sleeve and a machine bag.Unless he cleans his machine daily and even then they should use one.
Apprentice, while your reply that he could/should be using a clip cord sleeve and machine bag are decent advice, I'm not too sure cleaning his machines 'daily' is very sound advice, if a bag isn't used the machine should be cleaned after every tattoo, cleaning it just 'daily' could lead to cross contamination. If you're going to respond to a question/post, kindly do so accurately so as to not mislead people reading these posts.
oops!!
Whoops indeed.Should of made that clear, especially if thats the only gun they use through out the day.
Apprentice, 'whoops' indeed and now you make it even worse, first by refering it to as a 'gun', then with the statement 'especially if thats the only gun they use through out the day.' Where are you apprenticing that you are being taught to use the same MACHINE to outline, shade and color with? I used to enjoy reading this forum, now it's beginning to give me a major headache but I'm still one of those who thinks it's our responcibility to educate the public, although I often wonder if it isn't a losing battle.
lol wow arent you hostile. You can use a single gun to do line work and shading if the GUN is a shader to begin with. You just cant use anything smaller than a five for the outline. I and everyone around here calls a tattoo machine a gun.You dont like it? well to damn bad, such bitchyness over a name for something. If you gave a artists a diagram of a GUN with all its parts broken down many will have different names for the same piece. So il call a Tattoo machine a Gun all the fuck i want and laugh at you while i do it. www.urbaninktattoo.com
I am not being bitchy but you really should call the machine by its professional name which is MACHINE
From a collectors standpoint I don't care either way, just don't come after me with some rusty nail looking machine.
lol.Its just how its been called around here.My Aunt owned and operated a shop for 11 years and i always heard it refered to as a "gun" same in my shop now.If someone calls it a machine i could care less, dunno why everyone gets all ants in the pants when its called a Gun.
No,scratch that.I do know why.I just dont care.
Apprentice, no, I ain't 'hostile' , I just get tired of reading young punks running their mouths about shit they don't know and using the wrong term terminology while pretending to know more than they apparently do. There IS a difference but I suspect you're too young and immature to realize that. As to breaking a machine down and having different names for the various parts, perhaps where you come from but most knowledgeable tattoo artist have been calling them the same thing since before your smart ass was born and I'm one of them. I took the time to check out that website, not too bad for a bunch of youngsters and I'd guess you're the 19 y/o, which would explain alot. I'd suggest that instead of re-acting like a spoiled little kid when someone with far more experience corrects you when you make a foolish statement, you shut the fuck up, listen, read and learn. Oh, but I forgot, you just don't care, right?
LOL @ This thread I use to hate when them baggies would get into my points ( yes I used points ) Then I would have to file out the burned plastic during the tattoo, I found my-self going old school on large pieces and ripped the thing off. Of course now-a-days if I walked into my studio and found an artist working without one it would be their ass.
ok for the bagging of the machine subject why is it when i put a bag over the machine it bogs down the machine even before touching the skin the bag is not touching the needle or a-bar or springs.
i bag everything, cover everything i touch in barriers, and then i sani wipe everything. I dont know why i clean everything thats been bagged or wrapped. Im just anal. I have to sit and work and draw in that area all day. Touching everything, I dont need any diseases. I just want to live long enough to get to tattoo an asshole on someone for the banner ad i guess. I wipe my machines down after bagging them too. This is done after every tattoo. and the room gets "madacided" for atleast 15mins before the next tattoo. just wiping your machines down (not bagging) is not a solution. There are too many places in a machine that you cant get to with a sani wipe. and apprentice, flippin out that way and then linking to your shop.... isnt good advertisement. and i love sarah's ghostfacekilla painting. does she sell prints?
Apprentice, I really dig some of the artwork on the shops sight!! Good stuff man!
Freaking out? lol wow.Isnt the internet great.I didnt say i know everything, i am very humble. One cannot be a succesfull apprentice anyother way. lol.Im outta here.
Wow 'prentice, you scare easily.Better stick to the sweeter more genteel forums, can get pretty tough around here.
By the way apprentice you have it backwards: you can line and shade with a liner but you should never line with a shader.
