Hey everybody. Going to get an anchor tattoo. Its has diffrent personal reasons for my to do this. Ive found here http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_symbolism_of_anchor_tattoos an meaning ive never heard before. the last sentence: "The anchor tattoo is also a symbol for gay pride and can be gotten by people who are gay and proud of their gayness." On many other sites ive read the same article, but without this gay-meaning. did you heard about it before? Its from an site, where everybody can write an topic. (like wikipedia) so, what do you think about it?
according to the book of the tattoo encyclopedia there is O referal ti gay pride or being gay. it is a symbol of faith christianity and seafarness.also shows that a sailor has sailed the alantic ocean. nowhere does it say anything to being gay or about gay pride,
I actually read many articles and books about the meaning of nautical tattoos- one being the anchor. The anchor has a lot of meanings. But, yes, it was used as a symbol to identify a gay sailor back in the day. Today it is seen throughout the gay community as a more "hush hush" symbol- esp in the Navy before don't ask don't tell became revoked. I'm simply speaking for articles I have read about the US- it may be different in other countries- and like I said, it has more than just a gay meaning. Hope that could help.
